Summary

An Act To Amend Section 37-13-91, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Delete The Provision That Requires A Compulsory-school-age Child Who Is Absent More Than 37% Of The Instructional Day To Be Considered Absent The Entire Day; To Provide That A Compulsory-school-age Child Who Is Absent From The Taking Of Homeroom Roll-call Attendance At The Start Of The Day For The School Shall Be Considered Absent The Entire Day; To Provide An Exception To Absenteeism For Students Who Arrive Late To School And Have A Valid Excuse For Such Tardiness To Be Presented To The School Attendance Officer For Verification; To Amend Section 37-151-5, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Revise The Definition Of The Terms "minimum School Term" And "average Daily Attendance" As Such Terms Are Used For Determining Allocations To School Districts Under The Adequate Education Program By Removing The Requirement That A Student Be Present For At Least 63% Of The Instructional Day; To Require The Local School Board To Define Those Incidences Resulting In A Pupil's Tardiness That, For Purposes Of Determining And Reporting Attendance For Average Daily Attendance Purposes, Must Be Considered As Excused; And For Related Purposes.
