Summary
An Act To Establish "the Mississippi Traveling Teacher Certification Program"; To Require The State Department Of Education To Develop And Implement The Program For The Purpose Of Providing Underserved School Districts With Retired Certified Teaching Professionals To Serve As Mentor Teachers To Noncertified Instructional Personnel Employed By The School District; To Define The Term "underserved School District"; To Require The School District To Submit A Request For Certified Teaching Assistance To The Department Specifying Its Need; To Prescribe The Minimum Requirements For Districts To Receive Approval Of Certified Teacher Units For Accreditation And Funding Purposes; To Authorize The Department To Contract With A Consulting Firm To Recruit, Negotiate And Enter Into Contracts Of Employment With Retired Educators For Purposes Of The Program; To Amend Section 37-17-6, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Require The Commission On School Accreditation, Acting Through The State Board Of Education, To Authorize The Approval Of Certified Teacher Units, For Purposes Of Accreditation And Funding, To School Districts With A Reduced Number Of Certified Teaching Professionals In A School, Provided That A Certified Teaching Professional Is Placed In The Classroom With A Noncertified Teacher By The Department Or By The District; And For Related Purposes.
