Summary
An Act To Revise Certain Provisions Of The Mississippi Dyslexia Therapy Scholarship For Students With Dyslexia Program; Create New Section 37-173-33, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Prescribe The Required Instructional Approaches To Be Used By Public Schools Providing Direct Intervention And Nonpublic Special Purpose Schools Providing Instruction To Students Diagnosed With Dyslexia; To Create New Section 37-173-35, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Require The State Department Of Education To Employ At Least One Dyslexia Specialist With A Minimum Of Three Years Of Experience In Screening, Identifying And Treating Dyslexia And Related Disorders By 2018; To Stipulate The Qualification For The Individual Employed By The Department As A Dyslexia Therapist And Prescribe Their Duties And Responsibilities; To Create New Section 37-173-37, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Require The Department To Ensure That Each Teacher Receives Professional Awareness Training On Aspects Of Detecting Dyslexia Within A Student And Strategies To Teaching Students With Dyslexia; To Amend Sections 37-173-1, 37-173-9, 37-173-15, 37-173-17 And 37-173-19, Mississippi Code Of 1972, In Conformity To The Preceding Provisions; To Bring Forward Sections 37-173-3, 37-173-5, 37-173-7, 37-173-11, 37-173-13, 37-173-21, 37-173-23, 37-173-25, 37-173-27, 37-173-29 And 37-173-31, Mississippi Code Of 1972, For Purposes Of Possible Amendments; And For Related Purposes.
