Summary
An Act To Amend Section 37-17-6, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Provide That The State Department Of Education May Take Certain Corrective Action In School Districts Where An Emergency Has Been Declared Due To The Majority Of Schools In The District Under At-risk Status For Any One Year; To Amend Sections 37-18-3 And 37-18-5, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Clarify The Responsibilities Of The State Department Of Education Relative To Evaluating School At-risk Data And To Delete The Specific Membership Requirements For A Local Parent/citizen Advisory Council As Part Of The At-risk School Evaluation Process; To Amend Section 37-18-7, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Revise The Sanctions To Be Imposed By The Conservator In Schools Under At-risk Status; To Delete The Requirement That Professional Development Plans Be Developed For Certain Teachers, Principals, School District Administrative Office Personnel, And Superintendents In Need Of Improvement Based Upon The Length Of Time The School Has Been Under At-risk Status; To Delete The Authority Of The State Board Of Education To Request The Removal Or A Referendum To Remove The Members Of The School Board Of A School District Which Has Been Under At-risk Status For Three Years; To Delete The Requirement That The State Department Of Education Make A Semiannual Report To The State Board Of Education On Schools At-risk; To Delete The Requirement That The State Board Of Education Provide Staff Development Training; To Delete The Requirement That The State Board Of Education Provide A Legislative Report On Schools At-risk; And For Related Purposes.
