AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE ADVANCED PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSES AND PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS TO CERTIFY THE CAUSE OF DEATH OF A PERSON AND SIGN THE DEATH CERTIFICATE INSTEAD OF A PHYSICIAN IF THE NURSE OR PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT WAS THE PRIMARY PERSON WHO ATTENDED TO THE CARE OF THE DECEDENT BEFORE THE DEATH OF THE DECEDENT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. For the completion of a certificate of death, an advanced practice registered nurse or a physician assistant is authorized to certify the cause of death of a person and sign the certificate instead of a physician if the nurse or physician assistant was the primary person who attended to the care of the decedent before the death of the decedent.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2025.
