House Bill 903
AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE LICENSED AMBULANCE SERVICES THAT RECEIVE ANY PUBLIC FUNDING TO PICK UP AND TRANSPORT A PATIENT AT THE PATIENT'S REQUEST, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE PATIENT IS LOCATED OUTSIDE OF THE TERRITORIAL BOUNDARIES OF THE AMBULANCE SERVICE; TO PROVIDE THAT THE AMBULANCE SERVICE SHALL BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE ANY THIRD-PARTY REIMBURSEMENT THAT IT WOULD OTHERWISE BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE IF THE PATIENT HAD BEEN LOCATED WITHIN THE TERRITORIAL BOUNDARIES OF THE AMBULANCE SERVICE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. An ambulance service licensed in the state that receives any public funding from the state or any political subdivision of the state, through appropriation, taxation, grant, donation or otherwise, is authorized to pick up and transport a patient at the request of the patient, regardless of whether the patient is located outside of the territorial boundaries of the ambulance service. If an ambulance service picks up and transports a patient under the authority of this section, the ambulance service shall be eligible to receive any third-party reimbursement that the ambulance service would otherwise be eligible to receive for providing that service if the patient had been located within the territorial boundaries of the ambulance service.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2015.
