A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING SCOTT GRAY, JR., UPON BEING SELECTED AS THE 2010 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI AT&T MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.
WHEREAS, Scott Gray, Jr., an exceptional athlete from Lauderdale County, Mississippi, competed in the 2010 State Games of Mississippi soccer event and was selected as the 2010 State Games of Mississippi AT&T Male Athlete of the Year; and
WHEREAS, a West Lauderdale High School sophomore, whose natural talent makes him an unique, versatile and multi-talented athlete, Scott has been playing soccer for ten years, and as goalie for the Meridian Code Blue, helped lead his team to a 2010 State Games of Mississippi U16 Gold Medal victory by making 32 impressive saves of the more than 40 shots attempted by opponents, 16 of which were under attack; and
WHEREAS, Scott forged the way to the Code Blue's championship victory by leading the charge of retaliatory redemption against three opponent teams that defeated them earlier in regular season; and
WHEREAS, during his season with West Lauderdale High, Scott had more than 100 shots fired at his goal and made 71 saves for the team, 46 of which were saves under attack, affording the team the opportunity to continue on to the 4A State Championship Tournament where they won the North State title; and
WHEREAS, besides his soccer success in the 2010 State Games of Mississippi, Scott also competed in the two-man and four-man volleyball event and won several medals in these events as well, measuring up to the standards of his parents, who are also athletes and avid sports enthusiasts, by exemplifying the continuing tradition of sports involvement through fun, family, friendly and competitive play; and
WHEREAS, an outstanding young athlete that has made a major impression upon his teammates and competitors alike, Scott showcases great sportsmanship and strong compassion to win, which translates into an effortless ability to standout as an exceptional talent; and
WHEREAS, Scott's enthusiasm and talent for soccer reflect great pride upon himself, his family, his teachers and the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Scott Gray, Jr., on being selected as the 2010 State Games of Mississippi AT&T Male Athlete of the Year and express best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Scott Gray, Jr., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
