A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE

HAZLEHURST HIGH SCHOOL INDIANS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2012 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Hazlehurst High School Indians Football Team finished the 2012 season with a perfect record of 16 wins and 0 losses which is the most wins for a season in school history; and

     WHEREAS, the Indians did very well in the state playoffs this year, winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Region 7-3A Championship, the Class 3A South State Championship and the State 3A Championship in which they defeated Charleston by a score of 21-20; and

     WHEREAS, several of the Indians have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and superior play this

season, including the naming of Joseph Nelson and Demetrius Cain as Bernard Blackwell All Star Game Selections; the Mississippi Coaches 3A All State Team selections of Demetrius Cain as Defensive Player of the Year, Johnkil Skipper as First Team Defense and Toriaun Samuels and Kenneth Coleman as Second Team Offense; the MHSAA Region 7-3A All Region Team selections of Demetrius Cain as MVP, Kenneth Coleman as Offensive Player of the Year, Johnkil Skipper as Defensive Player of the Year and Dedric Reese, Joseph Nelson, Toriaun Samuels, Aaron Larry, Darius Washington, Terry Baker, Jarvarius Tanner, John Bridges, Dycelious Reese and D'Alex Rockingham as members of the All-Region Team; and Daily Leader All-Area Team selections of Demetrius Cain and Kenneth Coleman as Co-Offensive Players of the Year and Jarvarius Tanner and Johnkil Skipper as Co-Defensive Players of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, the Indians have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Randal Montgomery and Assistant Coaches Jarrod Milloy, Damien Gary, Ted Thompson, Jerome Cleveland, Trey Lindsey and Chris Fair who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Randal Montgomery has brought additional honor to himself and Hazlehurst High School by being selected as the Mississippi Association of Coaches 3A Coach of the Year, the Daily Leader All-Area Coach of the Year and the Region 7-3A Coach of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, the Indians have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Hazlehurst High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Hazlehurst High School Indians Football Team and their coaches, Head Coach Randal Montgomery and Assistant Coaches Jarrod Milloy, Damien Gary, Ted Thompson, Jerome Cleveland, Trey Lindsey and Chris Fair for their outstanding 2012 season, for winning the Class 3A State Championship with a perfect record of 16-0 and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IF FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Hazlehurst High School, Head Coach Randal Montgomery, Assistant Coaches Jarrod Milloy, Damien Gary, Ted Thompson, Jerome Cleveland, Trey Lindsey and Chris Fair and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
