House Concurrent Resolution 88

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING CHAD HARRISON UPON THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF HIS RETIREMENT AS HEAD COACH OF THE SCOTT CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL LADY REBELS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM.

     WHEREAS, Chad Harrison has announced his retirement after an impressive career as Head Coach of the Scott Central High School Lady Rebels Girls Basketball Team; and

     WHEREAS, in his last year coaching the Lady Rebels, Scott Central had a superb 2013-2014 season, winning both the Division 5 Regular Season and Tournament Championships, led by high school superstar Victoria Vivians, a senior signed to play for Mississippi State University; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Harrison graduated from Union High School in 1990, East Central Community College in 1992, earned a bachelor of professional accountancy from Mississippi State University in 1994 and earned a master of science in physical education with an emphasis in sports administration from Mississippi State University in 2000, excelling in the classroom each step of the way; and

     WHEREAS, he began his employment with the Scott County School District in 1995, serving in various capacities including teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal, federal programs director and test coordinator; and

     WHEREAS, in his many years coaching the Scott County High School Lady Rebels Girls Basketball Team, Coach Harrison helped lead them to three State Championships, in 2000, 2011 and 2013, and numerous other exceptional seasons, and he was named Coach of the Year for the county, division or class after a remarkable nine of his years spent coaching the Lady Rebels; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Harrison is a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Union, Mississippi, and married to Dr. Nicole Flint Harrison of Philadelphia, Mississippi, and together they have one son, Dylan, and one daughter, Julia; and

     WHEREAS, he will be greatly missed at the helm of the Lady Rebels, but his days associated with leading young people in the State of Mississippi are surely not complete, as he intends to pursue other opportunities in the realm of education, and might even end up courtside coaching again some day in the future; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by such a superb coach and leader of our youth as Coach Chad Harrison:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Chad Harrison, Head Coach of the Scott Central High School Lady Rebels Girls Basketball Team upon the announcement of his retirement, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Chad Harrison and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
