House Resolution 109

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CHARLESTON HIGH SCHOOL LADY TIGERS POWERLIFTING TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2011-2012 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, the Charleston High School Lady Tigers Powerlifting Team finished the 2011-2012 season at the top of their weight class in a full-throttled demonstration of athletic fortitude and prowess to win the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Powerlifting Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers lifted a combined total of 8,380 pounds to amass 48 team points to outdistance second-place finisher, South Pike, which accumulated 36 points, to clinch the championship victory over several well-suited teams, including: Velma Jackson, Lafayette, Nettleton, Columbia, Itawamba AHS and Pontotoc; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers have received several individual honors throughout this year's championship competition, which are a testament to the team's athletic super-status, including:  three first-place finishers, three second-place finishers, two third-place finishers and three fourth-place finishers; the establishing of a new state meet weight class record by senior, Tashania Weekly, in the 132-pound weight class, for a total weight of 730 pounds; a first-place finish in the 148-pound weight class by junior, Kaylen Herron, who lifted a total of 795 pounds; and the first-place finish of junior, Alexis Chambers, in the 220-pound weight class with a total of 910 pounds lifted; and

     WHEREAS, members of the Lady Tigers Powerlifting Team include:  Lakesha Dunn, Shelby McKinley, Audreanna Daniels, Alexis Chambers, Kaylen Herron, Shaniqua Stokes, Lesley Bradford, Tashania Weekly, Laquita Crowder, Alexis Ross, Breanna White and Danielle Goliday; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Jeff Hollingsworth and Assistant Coach Wayne Mayhan, who have broadened the Lady Tigers' knowledge of the sport and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Hollingsworth continues to build upon the legacy of superior performance and true sportsmanship acquired during his tenure with the Charleston High School Lady Tigers, where he is honored to lead an elite club of athletes which holds more state championships in the sport than any other girls team in Mississippi, with five titles, two state runner-up finishes and three consecutive North Powerlifting Meet Championships; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Charleston High School Lady Tigers Powerlifting Team and their coaches, Jeff Hollingsworth and Wayne Mayhan, for their outstanding 2011-2012 season, for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Powerlifting Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Charleston High School, Head Coach Jeff Hollingsworth, Assistant Coach Wayne Mayhan and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
