House Resolution 128

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING COACH CAMERON ACHORD OF BROOKHAVEN FOR BEING NAMED ASSISTANT SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR FOR THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS.

     WHEREAS, Coach Cameron Achord of Brookhaven, Mississippi, former interim head football coach at Southwest Mississippi Community College, reached the highest level of his profession in 2018, when he was named assistant special teams coordinator for the New England Patriots, a truly notable accomplishment; and

     WHEREAS, after playing safety at Belhaven University, where he received his bachelor's degree in computer science and sports administration, Coach Achord began his distinguished coaching career in 2009, when he served as a special teams graduate assistant for the Golden Eagles football team at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), where he would make lasting relationships that would ultimately lead to an amazing career opportunity in his near future; and

     WHEREAS, after his time at USM, Coach Achord joined Southwest Mississippi Community College, where he moved up the coaching ranks as an assistant coach for special teams, quarterbacks, running backs and tight ends, and later served as the school's recruiting director and offensive coordinator, and as he garnered the respect and admiration of his colleagues and superiors, he was named the college's interim head coach after former head coach Tucker Peavey departed; and

     WHEREAS, soon after being named interim head coach at Southwest, Coach Achord was contacted by Coach Joe Judge, the special teams coordinator for the New England Patriots who he had met during his time at USM, for an opportunity to interview for a coaching position with the Patriots; and

     WHEREAS, remarkably, two weeks after being named interim head coach at Southwest, Coach Achord resigned from his position to join the Patriots' coaching staff as assistant coach for special teams, and he would go on to do his part in helping the team reign victorious against the Los Angeles Rams at Super Bowl LIII, in Atlanta, Georgia, on February 3, 2019; and

     WHEREAS, as a man with superb coaching abilities and talent, Coach Achord certainly exemplifies the qualities of perseverance and dedication, inspiring all of those around him to strive for greatness each day; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Coach Cameron Achord, whose athletic excellence and outstanding leadership brings honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Coach Cameron Achord of Brookhaven, Mississippi, for being selected as an assistant special teams coordinator for the New England Patriots.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Cameron Achord and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
