A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DR. LARRY W. CHAPPELL UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY AFTER OVER 30 YEARS OF ILLUSTRIOUS SERVICE TO THE UNIVERSITY.

     WHEREAS, Dr. Larry W. Chappell is retiring from Mississippi Valley State University after dedicating over 30 years of unparalleled service to the university and its many wonderful students; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Chappell graduated from the University of Alabama in 1973 with a bachelor of arts in political science and again in 1975 with a master of arts in political science, before matriculating to Louisiana State University for a PhD in political science in 1982; and

     WHEREAS, after teaching at the University of Southern Mississippi, Louisiana State University and East Central University in Oklahoma, Dr. Chappell began his tenure as professor at Mississippi Valley State University in 1987; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Chappell has taught a wide array of courses, including American Political Thought, Political Philosophy, Constitutional Law and Public Policy Analysis; and

     WHEREAS, he has written articles, reviewed books, presented at conferences and public lectures, and earned numerous grants and special recognition including research grants, chairing committees and associations, awards and honors; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Chappell served as Associate Editor of Southeastern Political Review from 1996 to 2001 and participated in numerous summer fellowships at other institutions of higher learning; and

     WHEREAS, in all his service to Mississippi Valley State University, he has conducted himself with integrity and honesty, working diligently to better the lives of future generations; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippi educators, especially those such as Dr. Larry W. Chappell, whose dedication to his university and its students has brought great honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dr. Larry W. Chappell upon his retirement from Mississippi Valley State University after over 30 years of illustrious service and express sincere wishes for rest and relaxation in his lighter days ahead.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Larry W. Chappell and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
