A RESOLUTION COMMENDING ELDER CLIFTON GOODLOE, JR., FOR HIS OUTSTANDING DEDICATION AND TREMENDOUS SERVICE TO HIS CHURCH AND TO HIS COMMUNITY.
WHEREAS, as an exceptional pillar of his community, Elder Clifton Goodloe, Jr.'s tremendous commitment to his church and to his community is an inspiration to all; and
WHEREAS, the seventh of eight children born to Bishop Clifton Goodloe, Sr., and Helene Goodloe in Canton, Mississippi, Elder Goodloe attended Cameron Street High School, and after graduation he moved to Los Angeles, California, and worked for the United States Postal Service; and
WHEREAS, Elder Goodloe married Delores Thompson in 1964 and moved back to Canton, residing in the Cobbsville Community for over 50 years, and throughout the past 54 years of marriage, Elder Goodloe and Mrs. Goodloe were blessed with six children and 15 grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Elder Goodloe accepted Christ as his personal savior in October 1966 during a revival at Pleasant Green Church of Christ Holiness USA in Canton, and the message during the service that night was taken from Joshua 24:15, which states in part, "...but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."; and
WHEREAS, working diligently throughout his life to keep his commitment to Christ, Elder Goodloe raised his children in accordance with his faith, and he strives to be a positive influence for his grandchildren, setting an example of a life of service to Christ; and
WHEREAS, Elder Goodloe accepted his call to the ministry and preached his first sermon on July 4, 1976, at Pleasant Green Church of Christ Holiness USA, and he spent many years serving in leadership roles in the church and community, and he served on various committees and in various capacities; and
WHEREAS, in January 2018, Elder Goodloe started his 24th year as Pastor of the Greater Damascus Church of Christ Holiness USA in Hazlehurst, where he serves as the full-time senior pastor, and he enjoys mentoring two associates, Elder Sean Daniels and Minister Clifton Goodloe III; and
WHEREAS, often saying that he is "determined to finish his course with joy," Elder Goodloe passes the torch to his children so that they may carry on the spirit of service to Christ, to the community and to others, as he transitions to a less public life; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Elder Clifton Goodloe, Jr., whose extraordinary devotion to his church and to his community brings honor to his family, his community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Elder Clifton Goodloe, Jr., for his outstanding dedication and his tremendous service to his church and to his community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Elder Clifton Goodloe, Jr., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
