Senate Bill 2568

AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO REMOVE REPORTED ANIMAL CARCASSES FROM PUBLIC ROADS WITHIN THIRTY DAYS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1.  (1)  The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) shall be required to pick up all reported animal carcasses off the public highways and roadways within thirty (30) days of receiving notice.

     (2)  The Mississippi Department of Transportation must create and implement a reporting process, so that any person who sees an animal carcass along a public highway or road can effectively report it to MDOT.  The reporting process must include a toll free number that directly connects to an animal carcass reporting hotline.  MDOT must post the reporting process in an easily accessible location on the Mississippi Department of Transportation website.

SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2023.
