Senate Concurrent Resolution 650
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE KOSSUTH HIGH SCHOOL "AGGIES" AND "LADY AGGIES" BOWLING TEAMS AND COACH MICHAEL LEE FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 1 STATE BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, it was a good day for Kossuth High School at the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A State Bowling Tournament on March 7, 2019. The boys and girls teams both won Championships in Competition among Class IA, 2A and 3A schools; and
WHEREAS, it was the third Championship for the Kossuth girls and second for the boys. The Aggies also swept to State Titles in 2017. The Aggies and the Lady Aggies both had the high team score in preliminary bowling, then won their Baker roll-offs, five bowlers for each of the top two qualifying teams alternating frames; and
WHEREAS, Kossuth boys defeated Tremont in the Best-Of-Five Competition 171-153, 169-156, 187-150. The girls defeated Biggersville 133-90, 124-136, 174-110 and 134-124. The five bowlers for the Kossuth boys were Senior Rope Inman, Senior Hunter Eaton, Junior Seamus Brooks, Junior Hank Gardner and Senior Peyton Lee. The Kossuth boys came from behind in all three games. Peyton Lee, the Coach's son, clinched the first two games with three strikes in the 10th frame of the first game and two in the 10th of the second game. Strikes by Hunter Eaton, Seamus Brooks and Hank Gardner in the seventh, eighth and ninth frames keyed Kossuth's clinching win in the third game. The Kossuth boys totaled 2,824 for three games in preliminary bowling, an average game score of 188.3; and
WHEREAS, Kossuth's girls bowlers were seventh-grader Maddie Mask, Senior Marlee Mask, Senior Kerssia Beth Martin, seventh-grader Sally Kate Gardner and Senior Alison Patton. A spare in the 9th and 10th by Basden gave Biggersville its one victory in the second game, but open frames by the Lady Lions in the 9th and 10th allowed Kossuth to win the final game. For the girls, Kossuth had 2.174; and
WHEREAS, Kossuth had the top three individual bowlers, led by Lee's 689 total for the three preliminary games. He averaged 201 this year. Lee was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Hank Gardner (642), Sesmus Brooks (628), Rell Yarbrough of Union (615) and Josh Henderson of East Union (587); and
WHEREAS, the Aggies and Lady Aggies Championship Bowling Team members are: Brody Bono, Brennan Bullard, Sarah Kate Childs and Anna Cait Ozbirn; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Kossuth High School "Aggies" and "Lady Aggies" Bowling Teams and Coach Michael Lee for winning the MHSAA Class I State Bowling Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Kossuth Bowling Coach Michael Lee and Kossuth Principal Sam Roberts, forwarded to the Alcorn County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
