A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BOONEVILLE "BLUE DEVILS" MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH MICAH MOMENT FOR WINNING THE INAUGURAL 2022-2023 MISSISSIPPI MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, we join the students, coaches, faculty and parents of the Booneville Middle School "Blue Devils" Boys Basketball Team in celebrating their first-ever State Championship at the Inaugural 2022-2023 Mississippi Middle School Basketball Invitational held at East Mississippi Community College on January 28, 2023; and
WHEREAS, the "Blue Devils" postseason tournament play was outstanding: Regional Round played at Northeast Mississippi Community College, 1st Round, Booneville defeated East Union 50-36, 2nd Round, Booneville defeated Belle Shivers 59-22; Super Regional played at Northeast Mississippi Community College, 3rd Round, Booneville defeated Hills Chapel 59-41, 4th Round, Booneville defeated Neshoba Central 60-25; Championship played at East Mississippi Community College, Booneville defeated LeFlore County 40-39 (overtime and a buzzer beater); and
WHEREAS, the 2022-2023 Booneville Middle School "Blue Devils" Boys Basketball Roster: Clark Smith, Caden Ruth, Meechie Scruggs, Parker Pounders, J.J. Simmons, Qua Jack, Brently Adams, Easton Fields, Qua Bell, T.J. Nunn, Erik Daniel Dukes, Reed Scott, Jakwon Price, Elijah Dodds, Kydon Smith, Jack Robbins, Ashton Nichols, Jace Adams, Kayson Smith, Quin Reynolds, Tony Ogden, Rick Price and Coaches Micah Moment, Bryant Tynes and Cole Lauderdale; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these young Mississippi student-athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Booneville "Blue Devils" Middle School Boys Basketball Team and Coach Micah Moment for winning the Inaugural 2022-2023 Mississippi Middle School Basketball Invitational Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors the best wishes of the Mississippi Senate for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coaches Micah Moment, Bryant Tynes and Cole Lauderdale, Booneville Middle School Principal Brad Mixon, forwarded to the Prentiss County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
