A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND SENATOR LEE YANCEY FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.
WHEREAS, Senator Jeremy L. (Lee) Yancey is retiring from the Mississippi Senate to run for election to the Office of State Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, in Senator Yancey, the citizens of District 20 in Rankin and Madison Counties have been represented by a hardworking, practical public official with integrity and credibility; and
WHEREAS, Lee Yancey was born on July 29, 1968, in Ripley, Mississippi, where his father, Rex Yancey, served as a Baptist Pastor. At Mississippi College, Lee majored in Religion and after graduating in 1991, he enrolled at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, earned his Master of Divinity in Biblical Studies, and later his Doctorate in Leadership Administration. He became the Associate Pastor for Students and Activities at the First Baptist Church of Conyers, Georgia, and the First Baptist Church of Meridian, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, while in Meridian, Lee knew he had a love for politics and for Mississippi. In 2000, he had the opportunity to begin working as the Senior Consultant/Lobbyist for the Christian Action Commission of the Mississippi Baptist Convention. Lee became active in Rankin County politics. He served as a member of the Rankin County Republican Executive Committee, and in 2007, he was elected to the Mississippi State Senate to represent the citizens of District 20, portions of Rankin and Madison Counties. He serves as Vice Chairman of the Highways and Transportation Committee, and as a member of the Education, Ethics, Finance, Insurance, Judiciary A, and Public Health and Welfare Committees; and
WHEREAS, Lee joined Woodridge Capital Portfolio Management as a money manager in February of 2008. He enjoys helping clients with investments and retirement/profit sharing plans. Lee is a member of Pinelake Church in Brandon, Mississippi. Lee and his wife, the former Courtney Fagan, have two children; and
WHEREAS, Senator Yancey's service has been marked by his commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment and fairness. He has set the highest standard in all of his many roles, as father, husband, minister, businessman, citizen, statesman and Senator and as a true friend:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and recognize Senator Lee Yancey, whose outstanding service enriched everyone with whom he was associated, and we wish Lee and his family much success in his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Yancey and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
