A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to direct the State Board of Community colleges to waive tuition and registration fees for up to six hours of credit per academic semester for senior citizens.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 115D‑5 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:

"(b2)    Notwithstanding subsection (b) of this section, the State Board of Community Colleges shall waive tuition and registration fees for up to six hours of credit per academic semester for senior citizens who are 65 years of age or older and are qualified as legal residents of North Carolina."

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2016, and applies to the 2017 fall academic semester and each subsequent academic semester.
