A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to appropriate funds to the Department of public instruction for the child nutrition program to eliminate the student cost for reduced‑price breakfast in order to increase breakfast participation, as recommended by the House select committee on childhood obesity.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Public Instruction the sum of one million seven hundred thousand dollars ($1,700,000) for the 2012‑2013 fiscal year to eliminate the student cost of reduced‑price breakfast for children who qualify for reduced-price meals in each local school administrative unit. The goal of appropriating these funds is to increase breakfast participation.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2012.
