A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to allow passenger buses that have an overall length of sixty feet or less to operate on public streets and highways.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. G.S. 20‑116(l) reads as rewritten:
"(l) Nothing in this section shall be construed
to prevent the operation of passenger buses that are owned and operated by
units of local government, operated as a single vehicle only and having an
overall length of 4560 feet or less, on public streets or
highways. The Department of Transportation may prevent the operation of buses
that are authorized under this subsection if the operation of such buses on a
street or highway presents a hazard to passengers of the buses or to the
motoring public."
SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law.
