AN ACT relative to filing for town offices.

This bill allows towns that have adopted the nonpartisan ballot system to require that candidates for town offices file in person.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Eleven
AN ACT relative to filing for town offices.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
1 Nominations; Nonpartisan Ballot System. Amend RSA 669:19 to read as follows:
669:19 Nominations; Nonpartisan Ballot System. In a town which has adopted the nonpartisan ballot system as provided in RSA 669:13, all candidates shall file a declaration of candidacy with the town clerk during the filing period for town candidates. The town may adopt a requirement that all candidates file in person. [Such] The filing period shall begin on the seventh Wednesday and end on the Friday of the following week before the town election. Such declaration of candidacy shall be prepared by the town clerk in substantially the following form: I, ____________________, declare that I am domiciled in the town of _______________, and that I am a registered voter therein; that I am a candidate for the office of _______________ and hereby request that my name be printed on the official nonpartisan ballot of the town of _______________.
2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
