AN ACT relative to the seal of the general court.

This bill allows the house of representatives and the senate to adopt the first state seal from 1776 as the seal of the general court.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Seventeen

 

AN ACT relative to the seal of the general court.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

1  New Section; Seal of the General Court.  Amend RSA 3 by inserting after section 8 the following new section:

3:8-a  Seal of the General Court.  The seal adopted by act passed September 12, 1776 as the first state seal, may be adopted for use by either or both bodies of the general court as the seal of the general court.  The design consists of a fish and a tree, and between them a bundle of arrows, bound together.  The fish and the tree represent the state's original principal sources of wealth and subsistence, and the 5 arrows represent the original 5 counties of the state, united or bound into one government.  The inscription in Latin encircling the seal states:  SIGILL:  REI-PUB:  NEOHANTONI:  * VIS UNITA FORTIOR*.  The use of the seal of the general court if so adopted shall be limited to use by former and current members of the New Hampshire house of representatives and New Hampshire senate, and the staff of the legislature.

2  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
