     Requires emergency shelters for the homeless to admit persons with mental illness unless they pose danger.

An Act concerning emergency shelters for the homeless and supplementing P.L.1985, c.48 (C.55:13C-1 et seq.).

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    An emergency shelter for the homeless shall admit a person who has a mental illness and seeks shelter, or food and shelter, at the emergency shelter for the homeless, unless the person poses a danger to self, others, or property.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill concerns the admission of persons with mental illness to emergency shelters for the homeless, and requires the emergency shelters to admit persons with mental illness, unless they pose a danger to self, others, or property.
