STATEMENT
This bill provides for a supplemental appropriation of $7 million to the Department of Education to reinstate Nonpublic Technology Initiative aid. This aid category was first included in the FY 1999 Appropriations Act and provided $20 per pupil enrolled in nonpublic schools. The per pupil amount was increased to $40 in the FY 2000 Appropriations Act, and continued to be awarded at this level in each subsequent Appropriations Act through FY 2009. The Governor's recommended FY 2010 budget did not include an appropriation for this aid category. The $7 million supplemental appropriation included in this bill would provide aid for 175,000 nonpublic school students.
