SYNOPSIS
"New Jersey Tuition Equality for America's Military (NJTEAM) Act;" provides in-State tuition at New Jersey public institutions of higher education to military veterans.

An Act concerning veterans and higher education and amending P.L.1985, c.231.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Section 1 of P.L.1985, c.231 (C.18A:62-4.1) is amended to read as follows:
1. a. United States military personnel and their dependents who are living in New Jersey and are attending public institutions of higher education in New Jersey shall be regarded as residents of the State for the purpose of determining tuition.
b. A veteran 1living in New Jersey and1 attending a public institution of higher education in New Jersey shall be regarded as a resident of the State for the purpose of determining tuition. 1To maintain in-state tuition rates, the veteran shall apply for and receive residency status no later than the beginning of his or her third year of education at an institution of higher education. Failure to receive residency status by the third year of education shall result in the veteran paying out-of-state tuition rates until residency status is obtained.1
As used in this subsection, "veteran" means a person who has served on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States1, or a Reserve component thereof,1 and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than 1[dishonarable] dishonorable1.

2. This act shall take effect immediately.
