STATEMENT
This bill amends N.J.S.A.37:1-12.1 to require licensing officers issuing marriage or civil union licenses to collect an additional fee of $22 from applicants for the purpose of providing grants to programs for displaced homemakers pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A.52:27D-43.24b.
Currently, a supplementary fee of $25 is collected from marriage or civil union license applicants and forwarded to the Department of Human Services for the purpose of establishing and maintaining shelters for victims of domestic violence.
The additional fee of $22 shall increase the total cost of a marriage or civil union license from $28 (a base fee of $3 and the $25 fee dedicated to domestic violence shelters), to $50.
