Prohibits expenditure of State funds through private organizations to promote patriotism and honor members of Armed Forces, including National Guard and Reserve Component, at sporting events in New Jersey.
CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT
As introduced.
An Act concerning the expenditure of State Funds for certain patriotic events and supplementing chapter 3 of Title 38A of the New Jersey Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Notwithstanding any provision of any other law to the contrary, no State funds may be used for programs by private organizations to promote patriotism and honor service members of the Armed Forces of the United States, including the National Guard and the Reserves, at sporting events in New Jersey.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill prohibits the expenditure of State funds through private organizations for programs promoting patriotism and honoring service members of the Armed Forces of the United States, including the National Guard and Reserves, at sporting events in New Jersey. The sponsor believes that patriotism should not have to be purchased with taxpayer dollars. According to a Fox News Report on November 4, 2015 entitled, Should Congress Ban Pay for Patriotism at Sporting Events?, "the National Defense Authorization Act prohibits the Pentagon from spending taxpayer dollars on tributes at sporting events."
