SYNOPSIS
Requires motor vehicle, or combination of vehicles, with width of more than 12 feet to be accompanied by an escort vehicle.

An Act concerning the use of escort vehicles and supplementing Title 39 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. a. Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, at least one escort vehicle shall be required to travel with a motor vehicle or combination of vehicles when the width of the motor vehicle or combination of vehicles, including load, exceeds 12 feet, or when the length of the motor vehicle or combination of vehicles exceeds 100 feet, or both.
b. For the purposes of this section: "escort vehicle" means a motor vehicle, as defined under R.S.39:1-1, that is being used to warn other road users of the presence of an oversize vehicle or combination of vehicles; and "combination of vehicles" has the same meaning as provided in R.S.39:3-84.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill requires that at least one escort vehicle be required to travel with a motor vehicle or combination of vehicles when the width of the motor vehicle or combination of vehicles exceeds 12 feet. Under current regulation, an escort vehicle or vehicles are only required in the State when the width of a motor vehicle or combination of vehicles exceeds 14 feet, or when the length exceeds 100 feet, or both. "Escort vehicle" is defined to mean a motor vehicle that is being used to warn other road users of the presence of an oversize vehicle or combination of vehicles.
