SYNOPSIS

     Requires charter school to apply for new charter to open new school building or satellite campus.

An Act concerning charter school facilities and supplementing P.L.1995, c.426 (C.18A:36A-1 et seq.).

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a.  In order for a charter school to open a new school building or new satellite campus, the charter school shall submit an application, and receive approval, for a new charter.

     b.    A charter school shall not be required to apply for a new charter pursuant to subsection a. of this section if the purpose of the new school building or satellite campus is solely to provide space for additional grade levels that were approved in the original charter application.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect in the first full school year following the date of enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill would require a charter school that wishes to open a new school building or satellite campus to submit an application, and receive approval, for a new charter.  The bill does not require a charter school to apply for a new charter if the sole purpose of the new building or satellite campus is to provide space for additional grade levels that were approved in the original charter application.
