Designates third full week in March as "Domestic Violence Services Awareness Week" to bring awareness of services available to domestic violence victims.

A Joint Resolution designating the third full week in March as "Domestic Violence Services Awareness Week" in New Jersey.
Whereas, According to the National Coalition against Domestic Violence, one out of every three women and one out of every four men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner at some point in their lives; and
Whereas, There are approximately 39 organizations in this State that offer vital advocacy, services, and assistance to domestic violence victims and their families; and
Whereas, The services include, but are not limited to, a 24-hour hotline, emergency services, legal and financial services, counseling services, child services, housing services, support services, and community resource services; and
Whereas, These services provide critical resources to domestic violence victims and their families, as victims often do not have independent incomes or alternative housing options; and
Whereas, Victims of domestic violence may not be aware of the services offered, such as emergency shelter and housing, which may be vital in helping them safely escape abusive situations; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. The third full week in March of each year is designated as "Domestic Violence Services Awareness Week" in the State of New Jersey to bring awareness to the array of services, advocacy, and assistance offered to victims of domestic violence.
2. The Governor is respectfully requested to annually issue a proclamation calling upon public officials and citizens of this State to observe "Domestic Violence Services Awareness Week" with appropriate activities and programs.
3. This joint resolution shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This joint resolution designates the third full week of March as "Domestic Violence Services Awareness Week" in New Jersey to bring awareness to the services available to domestic violence victims in the State.
