CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

     As introduced.

An Assembly Resolution acknowledging and congratulating the Baez Family of Bogota Borough for the accomplishments of their two dogs at the 2016 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Whereas, The Westminster Kennel Club, established in 1877, is America's oldest organization dedicated to the sport of purebred dogs; and

Whereas, Lizka Baez and her family, of Bogota Borough, Bergen County, are the proud owners of Humphrey and Scarlett, two Dogues de Bordeaux; and

Whereas, Scarlett and Humphrey excelled at the highly competitive 2016 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, with Humphrey named the "best in breed" and Scarlett named the "best in opposite sex"; and

Whereas, "Westminster," as the annual dog show is commonly called, is generally considered the biggest and most prestigious showcase of dogs from around the world, and winning best in breed is no easy task; and

Whereas, The Baez Family spent countless hours training, grooming, and traveling in order to qualify to compete at Westminster this year; and

Whereas, Believed to have originated in France more than 600 years ago, the Dogue de Bordeaux, also known as the French Mastiff, Bordeaux dog, Bulldogue Francais, or most commonly among fanciers as the DDB, is highly regarded for its balanced temperament and imposing presence; and

Whereas, The Dogue de Bordeaux is a fearless, powerful dog that excels at both guard dog work and companionship to family; and

Whereas, At Westminster, dogs are judged for the closest "standard" for each breed, with judges conducting a rigorous head-to-toe screening inspecting each competitor's size, proportions, facial expression, bone structure, coat, and other characteristics specific to the breed; and

Whereas, To win best in breed at Westminster is quite an accomplishment and honor for any dog owner, but to also own the dog named best in opposite sex is quite noteworthy; and

Whereas, It is fitting and proper for this House to acknowledge and congratulate the Baez Family of Bogota Borough, Bergen County, for the accomplishments of their two dogs at the 2016 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

     1.    This House acknowledges and congratulates the Baez Family of Bogota Borough, Bergen County, for the accomplishments of their two dogs, Humphrey and Scarlett, at the 2016 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

     2.    Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Clerk of the General Assembly to the Baez Family of Bogota Borough, Bergen County.
