1. The commissioner, with the approval of the State Board of Medical Examiners, shall establish written standards which a person shall successfully complete in order to be certified as an EMT-Basic.
Applicants for EMT-Basic certification, who have obtained EMT-Basic certification from a state, territory, or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, shall be certified by the commissioner if the commissioner determines that the certification standards of the applicant's certifying jurisdiction exceed or are equivalent to the certification standards established by the commissioner.
