CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO ALLOW A GOVERNOR TO SERVE A PARTIAL TERM AND TWO FOUR-YEAR TERMS |
YES
Do you approve amending the Constitution to allow a Governor to serve a partial term and two four-year terms? |
INTERPRETIVE STATEMENT |
NO
Currently, the Constitution allows a person to serve as Governor for only two terms in a row. An unexpired term is considered the same as a full four-year term. This amendment would allow a Governor to serve for an unexpired term and two four-year terms. |
STATEMENT
This concurrent resolution proposes an amendment to Article V, Section I, paragraph 5 of the New Jersey Constitution which would exclude an unexpired term from the current limit of two successive terms. Under the amendment, a Governor could serve successively an unexpired term and two full four-year terms.
