JAFFEE, MARKEY -- Multi-Sponsored by -- M. of A. GALEF, GLICK -- read once and referred to the Committee on Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development AN ACT to impose a two year moratorium on the conduct of mixed martial arts events in the state and to require the commissioner of the department of health to conduct a comprehensive health study to deter- mine the dangers of mixed martial arts THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Notwithstanding any law, rule or regulation to the contra- 2 ry, public and for-profit mixed martial arts competition events shall 3 not be conducted in the state of New York for a period of two years from 4 the effective date of this act. 5 S 2. The commissioner of the department of health is authorized and 6 directed to conduct a comprehensive health study to determine the 7 dangers to participants of engaging in mixed martial arts competition 8 events. Such study shall be completed within eighteen months of the 9 effective date of this act. 10 S 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
