BROWN -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education -- recommitted to the Committee on Education in accordance with Assembly Rule 3, sec. 2 -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee -- again reported from said commit- tee with amendments, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee -- again reported from said committee with amendments, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to funding for school anti-violence education programs The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Paragraph a of subdivision 1 of section 2814 of the educa- 2 tion law, as amended by chapter 529 of the laws of 2023, is amended to 3 read as follows: 4 a. School safety activities. Programs eligible for funding pursuant to 5 this section may include, but not be limited to: (i) safe corridors 6 programs; (ii) diversity programs; (iii) collaborative school safety 7 programs with law enforcement agencies or community-based organizations; 8 (iv) metal detectors, intercom and other intra-school communication 9 devices and other devices to increase school security and the safety of 10 school personnel and students; (v) programs which facilitate and promote 11 community involvement in school facility planning; [and] (vi) school 12 anti-violence education programs; and (vii) other programs including 13 comprehensive school-based intervention models, approved by the commis- 14 sioner, that reduce violence and improve school safety. Comprehensive 15 school based intervention models shall coordinate with and collaborate 16 with other services currently being provided in the school district, EXPLANATION--Matter in italics (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [] is old law to be omitted. LBD08152-10-4A. 4917--C 2 1 incorporate appropriate school violence prevention and intervention 2 services, and coordinate appropriate funding sources to ensure the effi- 3 cient delivery of services. Such comprehensive school-based intervention 4 models shall also include provisions for the involvement of teachers, 5 parents, school administrators in the development and implementation of 6 the program, a detailed statement identifying specific performance 7 goals, a proposed timetable for implementation and achievement of such 8 goals and specific assessment methods which will be used to measure 9 student and school progress. 10 § 2. This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same 11 manner as chapter 529 of the laws of 2023, takes effect.
