Senate Resolution No. 459 BY: Senator STEC MOURNING the death of Sue Montgomery Corey, distinguished citizen, caring family member and devoted member of her community WHEREAS, It is with the feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative Body pauses to pay tribute to Sue Montgomery Corey, a remarkable citizen whose lifework and civic endeavors served to enhance the quality of life in her community and the great State of New York; and WHEREAS, Sue Montgomery Corey of Minerva, New York, died on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at the age of 64; and WHEREAS, Born in Potsdam, New York, Sue Montgomery Corey grew up in Altona, and was the eldest of five siblings; her wisdom and kindness from a young age made her the perfect role model for her two sisters and two brothers, whom she held dear; and WHEREAS, After attending Altona Central School and then graduating from Northern Adirondack Central High School in 1976, Sue Montgomery Corey achieved an impressive academic career, graduating from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Environmental Studies; she went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Technical Communications from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1993; and WHEREAS, Sue Montgomery Corey distinguished herself in her profession and in 2009, she became the first female Supervisor of the Town of Minerva, New York; and WHEREAS, A true asset to her community, Sue Montgomery Corey was actively involved in the Minerva Service Organization and coached the Minerva Central School's Odyssey of the Mind team for 15 years; furthermore, for the past eight years, she served as the Director of the Indian Lake Theater; and WHEREAS, In 2003, Sue Montgomery Corey and her husband were named Citizens of the Year, and in 2016, she was named the Democratic Election Commissioner of Essex County; and WHEREAS, Protector and supporter of her family, Sue Montgomery Corey's wisdom and kindness will be greatly missed by her community and family; she was an amazing mother, grandmother and caregiver to all those she loved; and WHEREAS, Some of the unique attributes of Sue Montgomery Corey will be forever missed, like her competitiveness, her adventurousness, her artistry, her collective hobbies and her fascinating spirit; and WHEREAS, Sue Montgomery Corey is survived by her husband, Mike Corey; her daughter, Emma; her son, Eben; her two grandchildren, Nora and Garreth; her mother, Ellen; her sisters, Karen and Laurie; and her brothers, Bill and Tom; and WHEREAS, Resting in love, Sue Montgomery Corey leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of Sue Montgomery Corey, and to express its deepest condolences to her family; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Sue Montgomery Corey.
