        HONORING  NYPD Officer Alyssa Vogel in recognition
        of her prompt and heroic actions in saving the  life
        of  a  four-year-old  girl  who was injured during a
        triple shooting in Times Square on May 8, 2021

  WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of community  life  are  cherished
values,  worthy  of  safeguarding, and this Legislative Body is moved to
honor those individuals who serve to preserve and protect  such  values,
lauding  particularly  their  unwavering  courage  and dedication in the
daily performance of their duties; and

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize  the
caring  concern  and  heroic acts of those exemplary police officers who
take prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, and in doing
so, help others to avert life-threatening danger; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
NYPD  Officer  Alyssa  Vogel  in  recognition  of  her prompt and heroic
actions in saving the life of  a  four-year-old  girl  who  was  injured
during a triple shooting in Times Square on Saturday, May 8, 2021; and

  WHEREAS,  On  the  afternoon  of Saturday, May 8, 2021, NYPD Officer
Alyssa Vogel responded to a shooting at West 45th Street and 7th  Avenue
in New York City's tourism zone, where a four-year-old girl was shopping
for toys with her family when she was struck by a stray bullet; and

  WHEREAS,  Upon arriving to the scene, Officer Alyssa Vogel, who is a
mother to a six-month-old boy, noticed the little girl  with  a  gunshot
wound to her leg; and

  WHEREAS,  Without  hesitation  or regard for her own safety, Officer
Alyssa Vogel immediately picked up the child and  moved  her  to  safety
before  applying  a  tourniquet  and  later  rushing  her  to  a  nearby
ambulance; and

  WHEREAS, Alyssa Vogel, whose father, brother and husband  all  serve
as  police  officers,  joined  the  New York City Police Department four
years ago after serving as a Physical Education Teacher in Brooklyn; and

  WHEREAS,  Through  her  heroic   actions,   Officer   Alyssa   Vogel
demonstrated  her  character  and  compassion for the welfare of others,
personifying the  collective  concern  of  public  servants  across  the
community  of  the State of New York who respond when others are in need
of help; and

  WHEREAS, It is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  that  those
extraordinary  individuals  who  unselfishly  devote  their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are  worthy  and  due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor NYPD Officer Alyssa Vogel in recognition of her heroic actions  on
May 8, 2021, noting the significance of her selfless contributions which
are  in  keeping with the highest traditions of the New York City Police
Department; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to NYPD Officer Alyssa Vogel.
