Senate Resolution No. 2266 BY: Senator TEDISCO HONORING Jack Edwards upon the occasion of his induction into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame on September 19, 2022 WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to those outstanding athletes who inspired and brought pride to their school and community by achieving outstanding success in competition, attaining unprecedented success and the highest level of personal achievement; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jack Edwards upon the occasion of his induction into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame at its 2022 Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame & Reunion Dinner on Monday, September 19, 2022, at the Event Center at Rivers Casino & Resort, Schenectady, New York; and WHEREAS, A standout athlete at Mont Pleasant High School, Jack Edwards was a 1959 Scholastic Magazine Football All-American, as well as the recipient of the Thom McAn Award; and WHEREAS, Jack Edwards played in the 1960 Prep All-American Football Classic in Hershey, Pennsylvania, catching four passes for 48 yards in the game; and WHEREAS, In addition to his football acumen, Jack Edwards was an outstanding track athlete, winning both the Sectional Class A championship in the 180-yard low hurdles three times, and the Sectional championship twice in the 120-yard high hurdles; and WHEREAS, Jack Edwards set the Section II Meet 180-yard low hurdles record, and also set meet records at the Utica Invitational, Rye Invitational and Schenectady Interscholastic Sports Carnival; and WHEREAS, Jack Edwards was aptly recognized as the 1960 Mont Pleasant AC Athlete of the Year, sharing the award with Linton's Barry Kramer; and WHEREAS, Jack Edwards continued playing football at the collegiate level, lettering at Boston University in 1961; and WHEREAS, In addition to all of his athletic achievements, Jack Edwards has distinguished himself as a public official currently serving as the Mayor of the Town of Pineville in North Carolina; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Jack Edwards upon the occasion of his induction into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame on September 19, 2022; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Jack Edwards.
