Assembly Resolution No. 764 BY: M. of A. Levenberg CELEBRATING the life of Thomas P. Diana, business owner, retired police officer, distinguished citizen, and devoted member of his community WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who, through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive impact on the lives of its residents; Thomas P. Diana was one such individual; and WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this Legislative Body records the passing of Thomas P. Diana, noting the significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and WHEREAS, Thomas Paul Diana of Shrub Oak, New York, died on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the age of 66; and WHEREAS, Thomas P. Diana was born to the late Henry Paul Diana and Maurine Audra Power Diana; he was born and raised in Shrub Oak, New York where he proudly continued to live and serve; and WHEREAS, A 1975 graduate of Lakeland High School, Thomas P. Diana began his long and distinguished career in public service as Putnam County Deputy Sheriff; after serving for Putnam County, he transferred to Yorktown, New York Police Department as a part of the K9 Unit; and WHEREAS, Succeeding his employment there he transferred to the Town of Cortlandt Police Department, where he became Patrol Commander Sergeant; he then finished his law enforcement career in the Westchester County Police Department, retiring in March 2005; and WHEREAS, A successful small business owner, Thomas P. Diana also served as Town Councilman for Yorktown for seven years; he became the interim Town Supervisor for Yorktown and then was elected as the current Yorktown Town Supervisor in November 2023; and WHEREAS, Thomas P. Diana never met a stranger and loved talking to people; he would drop everything to help anyone in need; he had a quick wit and beautiful, blue eyes that lit up the room; Thomas had a jovial smile and laugh that made everyone happy whenever he was near; and WHEREAS, Outside of his law, small business, and political ventures, Thomas P. Diana enjoyed many hobbies, his favorite being drag racing; he was a momentous supporter of Guiding Eyes for the Blind, and he socialized pups, successfully raising a graduate pup named Nacho; he loved the sea and sky; he was an avid boater and a licensed boat captain; Thomas also received his pilot's license; and WHEREAS, A true asset to his lifelong community, Thomas P. Diana was an integral part of initiating the Yorktown Against Heroin Program; he had a passion for socializing, meeting new people, and serving his community; and WHEREAS, Thomas P. Diana was a member of many local organizations including The Yorktown Elks, Circolo DaVinci Italian Club, and Sons of the American Legion; his love of this was evident in his everyday life; and WHEREAS, While he was passionate about many things, his greatest passion was spending time with his beloved family and adored grandchildren; Thomas P. Diana is survived by his devoted, loving wife Donna; two daughters, Megan (William) and Brianna (Steven); and four grandchildren, Emma Marie, Gracie Lynn, Penelope Rose, and Daisy Row; and WHEREAS, Thomas P. Diana's infinite selflessness and benevolence will shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories; his insight and strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to the countless lives he touched; and WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of compassion, Thomas P. Diana leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all who were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man; he will be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of Thomas P. Diana, and to express its deepest condolences to his family; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Thomas P. Diana.
