STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 376 2019-2020 Regular Sessions IN SENATE (Prefiled) January 9, 2019 ___________ Introduced by Sen. LANZA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to passenger registration of pickup trucks The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 401 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by 2 adding a new subdivision 16-a to read as follows: 3 16-a. Pickup trucks. Notwithstanding any other provision of this chap- 4 ter or other law, rule or regulation, a pickup truck which is used 5 exclusively for non-commercial purposes shall, at the option of the 6 registrant, be classified as a passenger vehicle and registered accord- 7 ingly. For purposes of this subdivision, "pickup truck" shall mean any 8 truck, regardless of weight, which has a cargo bed and side walls, 9 regardless of seating capacity within the cab. Nothing in this section 10 shall preclude the registration of a pickup truck as a passenger vehicle 11 solely because such pickup truck is driven to and from the registrant's 12 place of employment. 13 § 2. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall 14 have become law; provided, however, that effective immediately, the 15 addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary 16 for the implementation of this act on its effective date is authorized 17 and directed to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
