THOMAS, COMRIE, GOUNARDES, JACKSON, MARTINEZ, PALUM- BO, PERSAUD, RAMOS, RHOADS, SKOUFIS, STAVISKY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to establishing certain school holidays The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Paragraph b of subdivision 1 of section 3210 of the educa- 2 tion law is amended by adding a new subparagraph (iii) to read as 3 follows: 4 (iii) The following cultural or religious holidays shall be school 5 holidays for any schools or school districts where the board of educa- 6 tion or trustees determines such schools or districts have a sizable 7 proportion of students who observe such days: Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, 8 Diwali, Lunar New Year, Tihar, Bandi Chhor Divas and Onam. 9 § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of July next succeeding 10 the date on which it shall have become a law.
