RIVERA, GALLIVAN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Correction -- recommitted to the Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Correction in accordance with Senate Rule 6, sec. 8 -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation to prohibiting county correction officers from dispensing medication using syringes or needles in jails to incarcerated individuals The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 505 of the correction law is amended by adding a 2 new subdivision 5 to read as follows: 3 5. County correction officers in local correctional facilities shall 4 not dispense or administer medication using hypodermic syringes or hypo- 5 dermic needles to incarcerated individuals on the premises of a local 6 correctional facility as defined in subdivision sixteen of section two 7 of this chapter, unless they are otherwise authorized to do so. This 8 provision shall not apply to dispensing of pill-based medication to 9 incarcerated individuals. 10 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
