       Introduced  by  Sens. FUSCHILLO, ADAMS, HASSELL-THOMPSON, SAVINO -- read
         twice and ordered printed, and when printed to  be  committed  to  the
         Committee on Transportation
       AN  ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to prohibiting
         U turns in school zones during posted hours
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section  1. Section 1161 of the vehicle and traffic law, as amended by
    2  chapter 157 of the laws of 1978, is amended to read as follows:
    3    S 1161. U turns in certain areas prohibited. A. No motor vehicle shall
    4  make a U turn upon any curve, or upon the approach to, or near the crest
    5  of a grade, where such motor vehicle cannot be seen by the driver of any
    6  other motor  vehicle  approaching  from  either  direction  within  five
    7  hundred feet.
    8    B.  NO  MOTOR  VEHICLE SHALL MAKE A U TURN WITHIN A SCHOOL ZONE DURING
    9  POSTED HOURS. SUCH SCHOOL ZONE AND HOURS SHALL BE DESIGNATED BY  SIGNAGE
   10  CONSISTENT WITH 17 NYCRR CHAPTER V, SECTION 7B.09.
   11    S  2.  This  act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall
   12  have become a law.
