        Introduced  by  Sen.  BROOKS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed  to  the  Committee  on  Local  Government  --
          reported  favorably  from  said committee, ordered to first and second
          report, ordered to a third reading,  amended  and  ordered  reprinted,
          retaining its place in the order of third reading -- again amended and
          ordered reprinted, retaining its place in the order of third reading

        AN  ACT  in  relation  to  authorizing the village of Freeport to have a
          second associate village justice

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section  1.  Additional  village  justice,  village  of  Freeport. The
     2  village of Freeport, a village with one village justice and one  associ-
     3  ate village justice, is hereby authorized to adopt a resolution at least
     4  one hundred fifty days prior to any village general election and subject
     5  to  a  permissive  referendum,  to authorize the appointment of a second
     6  associate village justice to serve when requested by the village justice
     7  or in the absence or inability of the village justice or current associ-
     8  ate justice to serve. Nothing in this section shall serve to  modify  or
     9  affect  the current village justice or associate village justice in such
    10  village.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
