        Introduced  by  Sen.  BROOKS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government

        AN ACT to amend the village law, in relation to authorizing the  village
          of Freeport to have a second associate village justice

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. The village law is amended by adding a new section  3-303-a
     2  to read as follows:
     3    §  3-303-a  Addition village justice, village of Freeport. The village
     4  of Freeport, a village with only a  village  justice  and  an  associate
     5  village justice, is hereby authorized to adopt a resolution to authorize
     6  the  appointment  of  a  second  associate village justice to serve when
     7  requested by the village justice or in the absence or inability  of  the
     8  village  justice  or current associate justice to serve. Nothing in this
     9  section shall serve to modify or affect the current village  justice  or
    10  associate village justice in such village.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
