BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
| Section 1. That new section 3301.0718 of the Revised Code be | 7 |
| enacted to read as follows: | 8 |
| Sec. 3301.0718. (A) Not later than July 1, 2013, the state | 9 |
| board of education shall adopt either of the following for the | 10 |
| purposes of health education in grades kindergarten through | 11 |
| twelve: | 12 |
| (1) The most recent health education standards developed by | 13 |
| the American association for health education; | 14 |
| (2) Health education standards developed and prescribed by | 15 |
| the state board itself. Standards developed by the state board | 16 |
| under this division shall be based upon the national standards | 17 |
| prescribed in division (A)(1) of this section. | 18 |
| (B) The department of education shall provide the adopted | 19 |
| standards, and any revisions to the standards, to all school | 20 |
| districts, community schools established under Chapter 3314., STEM | 21 |
| schools established under Chapter 3326., and college-preparatory | 22 |
| boarding schools established under Chapter 3328. of the Revised | 23 |
| Code. Any school or district may utilize the standards. | 24 |
| Section 2. That section 3301.0718 of the Revised Code is | 25 |
| hereby repealed. | 26 |
