A BILL
To enact section 4503.526 of the Revised Code to 1
create the "Ohio Statehouse" license plate.2


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       Section 1. That section 4503.526 of the Revised Code be 3
enacted to read as follows:4

       Sec. 4503.526.  (A) The owner or lessee of any passenger car, 5
noncommercial motor vehicle, recreational vehicle, or other 6
vehicle of a class approved by the registrar of motor vehicles may 7
apply to the registrar for the registration of the vehicle and 8
issuance of "Ohio Statehouse" license plates. The application for 9
"Ohio Statehouse" license plates may be combined with a request 10
for a special reserved license plate under section 4503.40 or 11
4503.42 of the Revised Code. Upon receipt of the completed 12
application and compliance with division (B) of this section, the 13
registrar shall issue to the applicant the appropriate vehicle 14
registration and a set of "Ohio Statehouse" license plates with a 15
validation sticker or a validation sticker alone when required by 16
section 4503.191 of the Revised Code. In addition to the letters 17
and numbers ordinarily inscribed thereon, "Ohio Statehouse" 18
license plates shall be inscribed with words and markings selected 19
and designed by the capitol square review and advisory board and 20
approved by the registrar. "Ohio Statehouse" license plates shall 21
bear county identification stickers that identify the county of 22
registration by name or number.23

       (B) "Ohio Statehouse" license plates and validation stickers 24
shall be issued upon payment of the regular license tax as 25
prescribed under section 4503.04 of the Revised Code, any 26
applicable motor vehicle tax levied under Chapter 4504. of the 27
Revised Code, a bureau of motor vehicles administrative fee of ten 28
dollars, the contribution specified in division (C)(1) of this 29
section, and compliance with all other applicable laws relating to 30
the registration of motor vehicles. If the application for "Ohio 31
Statehouse" license plates is combined with a request for a 32
special reserved license plate under section 4503.40 or 4503.42 of 33
the Revised Code, the license plates and validation sticker shall 34
be issued upon payment of the contribution, fees, and taxes 35
contained in this division and the additional fee prescribed under 36
section 4503.40 or 4503.42 of the Revised Code.37

       (C)(1) For each application for registration and registration 38
renewal submitted under this section, the registrar shall collect 39
a contribution of twenty-five dollars. The registrar shall 40
transmit this contribution to the treasurer of state for deposit 41
into the capitol square renovation gift fund created in section 42
105.41 of the Revised Code.43

       (2) The registrar shall pay the ten-dollar bureau 44
administrative fee, the purpose of which is to compensate the 45
bureau for additional services required in issuing "Ohio 46
Statehouse" license plates, into the state treasury to the credit 47
of the state bureau of motor vehicles fund created in section 48
4501.25 of the Revised Code.49
