In memory of Merle Grace Kearns. |
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Merle Grace Kearns on the sorrowful occasion of her death; and |
WHEREAS, Merle Kearns' zealous love of life and her selfless concern for the welfare of others distinguished her as an outstanding human being and a leading citizen. A former commissioner for Clark County, she was appointed in 1991 to the Ohio Senate, where she advocated for human services issues, served on various committees, and received numerous awards, and after ten years, she was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives, where she was selected as majority floor leader. In 2005, she was appointed director of the Ohio Department of Aging, holding that post until 2007, and she was involved with several civic organizations, including the County Commissioners Association of Ohio, the Miami Valley Military Affairs Association, the Springfield/Clark County League of Women Voters, the Intelligent Transportation Society of Ohio, and Mary Help of Christians Church; and |
WHEREAS, The love, compassion, and understanding Merle Kearns so readily extended to others will long remain in the hearts and minds of all who knew her. Indeed, she was a devoted public servant and community leader whose exemplary career and civic service serve as an inspiration for others; and |
WHEREAS, A woman of exceptional concern and commitment, Merle Kearns became known for her kindness and her unwavering dedication to service, and her efforts will certainly live beyond her. She will be remembered fondly by all those who loved and cherished her, including her husband, Thomas, her four children, Thomas, Michael, Timothy, and Matthew, and her eight grandchildren; therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, pay tribute to the memory of a remarkable woman, Merle Grace Kearns; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the family of Merle Grace Kearns. |
