| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Designating a portion of State Route 2017 in Lower Macungie |
2 | Township, Lehigh County, as the Sgt. Ashly L. Moyer Memorial |
3 | Road. |
4 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
5 | hereby enacts as follows: |
6 | Section 1. Sgt. Ashly L. Moyer Memorial Road. |
7 | (a) Declaration of policy.--The General Assembly finds and |
8 | declares as follows: |
9 | (1) Sgt. Ashly L. Moyer was born in Allentown, Lehigh |
10 | County, and graduated from Emmaus High School in 2003. |
11 | (2) In 2004 Sgt. Moyer graduated from the Army Military |
12 | Police School in Missouri and served at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, |
13 | and Bamberg, Germany, before being assigned to Iraq in the |
14 | 630th Military Police Company, 793rd Military Police |
15 | Battalion, of the United States Army. |

1 | (3) Sgt. Moyer made the supreme sacrifice on March 3, |
2 | 2007, when the 21-year-old was killed while on routine patrol |
3 | and driving an armored patrol vehicle. She was driving the |
4 | second vehicle in a convoy of four. As the lead vehicle drove |
5 | over a buried bomb, insurgents detonated it by remote |
6 | control. The occupants of the lead vehicle survived, but the |
7 | explosion detonated the fuel tank on Moyer's vehicle, |
8 | creating a fireball that killed her and the two sergeants |
9 | with her. |
10 | (4) Inspired by her family's military lineage, her |
11 | Marine grandfather having served in World War II, Korea and |
12 | Vietnam, Moyer joined the Army Reserve through the delayed |
13 | enlistment program while still attending Emmaus High School. |
14 | (5) At the time of her death she was survived by her |
15 | parents, Jane Drumheller of Pike County and Michael Moyer of |
16 | Lower Macungie, brothers Tyler, 12, and Kyle, 10, a sister, |
17 | Teagan, 8, and a stepsister, Karissa, 21. She was also |
18 | survived by her stepparents, grandfather and great- |
19 | grandmother. |
20 | (b) Designation.--State Route 2017, Brookside Road in Lower |
21 | Macungie Township, Lehigh County, from the intersection with |
22 | State Route 2021, Buckeye Road, to the intersection with State |
23 | Route 222 is hereby designated as the Sgt. Ashly L. Moyer |
24 | Memorial Road. |
25 | (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and |
26 | maintain appropriate signs to indicate the designation under |
27 | subsection (b). |
28 | Section 2. Effective date. |
29 | This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
