AN ACT

Changing the name of the Department of Public Welfare; and

2

making an appropriation providing for transition period.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

4

hereby enacts as follows:

5

Section 1.  Short title.

6

This act shall be known and may be cited as the Public

7

Welfare Redesignation Act.

8

Section 2.  Redesignation.

9

The Department of Public Welfare shall be known as the

10

Department of Human Services.

11

Section 3.  Implementation.

12

A reference to the Department of Public Welfare in a statute

13

or a regulation shall be deemed a reference to the Department of

14

Human Services.

Section 9.  Appropriation.

The sum of , or as much thereof as may be necessary, is

hereby appropriated to the Department of Public Welfare for the

2

fiscal year July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2011, to carry out the

3

provisions of this act.

Section 4.  Transition period.

In order to provide an efficient and cost-minimizing

6

transition, changing the name of the department on stationery,

7

signage and publications may be done over a two-year period and

8

shall be coordinated with changes in administration.

9

Section 10.  Effective date.

10

This act shall take effect July 1, 2010, or immediately,

11

whichever is later.
